My Life In A Nutshell (my semi-autobiographical comic strip) has been updated. Title: “Valentine’s Day.”

Poetry FAQ for young writers

by Debbie on February 14, 2006

Under Glass

I’ve just launched POETRY FAQ: A young poet’s guide to poetry and poetry writing, part of a larger project I’m working on with Rand Bellavia. In addition to links to useful online resources, the site includes tips from experienced poets for young writers. If you’re willing to contribute advice for a young poet, please send me e-mail, thanks!

Correction: Writer’s Row

by Debbie on February 13, 2006

Deborah has corrected me: Writers’ Row isn’t just her…it’s a “a small collective of freelance writers who work in a variety of fields and genres, from romance novels to legal sites. We write slogans, headlines, filler, webpages, articles, screenplays and books.” You can find links to their blogs and projects on this page, as well as useful online resources like Deborah’s Freelance Writing Job Leads AND a message board.

Deborah Ng: Freelance Writing Job blog

by Debbie on February 11, 2006

Freelance Writing Jobs is a great source of freelance writing job links. The site is maintained by Deborah Ng, a freelance writer who specializes in Web copy. Deborah also has a sporadically updated personal blog called Finding The Right Words, in which she talks about quitting her day job to become a freelance writer…and is finding enough work to pay the mortgage and finance other needed items for the house. Her Confessions Of A Stay At Home Mom doesn’t have as much focus on writing, but has useful info for any parent considering working at home (see her entry: What you need to be a work at home Mom.)

WritingSucks.com

by Debbie on February 9, 2006

From the name of the blog, at first I thought WritingSucks.com was a vent against freelance writing. Looking more closely, however, I noticed that the many of the entries highlight useful resources for writers (hey, like Will Write For Chocolate :-)). From Kerri’s About page: “I’ve always wanted to be a writer–but unfortunately the fantasy of a writing lifestyle usually wins out over the whole actual writing process. I started www.writingsucks.com to give myself some structure, to keep track of my queries and the contests I want to enter, and to vent my frustration about the learning process that every writer must endure.”

Thanks to Angela Hoy for giving Will Write For Chocolate a plug in her weekly e-mail newsletter for freelance writers, WritersWeekly. :-)
