There are very few e-mail newsletters I read for pure fun/enjoyment, and Photojojo (great for anyone interested in photography) is one of them. They’re apparently looking for a writer based in San Francisco. If I lived in SF, I’d be SO tempted to apply.
Anyway, maybe someone out there is interested. Hey…if you apply, do [...]

About.com and other online writing venues

The Ultimate Guide to Making Money Through Freelance Writing Online by Matthew Paulson is a short article with a few tips about making money online, though focus seems to be on low-paying venues. The article itself is hosted on AssociatedContent.com.
I was pointed to an About.com Guide opening a short while back and confess I was briefly tempted, but it sounds fairly time-consuming for the pay offered…a minimum of 80 hours a month is expected, which works out to about $6.25/hour. New guides, however, are guaranteed to make at least $725 per month for the first two years (closer to $9/hr).
About Guides are expected to publish two full-length articles every 14 days and update their blog one to three times per week. I was unable to find rights info, though I suspect that the content you create for About.com would be work-for-hire; About.com says they have the right to modify your content as well as keep your content online even after you’re no longer a Guide.
If anyone out there has ever been an About.com Guide, I’d be interested in hearing about your experience.

Back in my Inkspot days, I use to often refer writers to John Hewitt’s wonderful Writer’s Resource Center site. Since then, John has added an extensive Writing Job section to his site. There are quite a few writing-related categories, like Freelance, Copywriting, Literary, Technical Writing, and Online/Web.
You can see the most recent postings by visiting John Hewitt’s Writing Job Blog.
