Cool Office Space: A Bookcase Igloo!

February 28th, 2008 · 6 Comments

Thanks to Ray Vankleef for pointing me to photos of how someone made a little book igloo around a child’s bed in their room. You can see all the pics of how this bookcase bedroom was created in Flickr.

The bedroom is part of the Uroko House, which was designed by Point Architects in Tokyo.

The Freshome post about the book igloo says it would be a great project for kids, but I would SO totally love to have something like this in my home office. My friends and family already nickname my office “The Cave,” and I’m always looking for new ways to add shelf space. Hm…a book igloo around my desk?

Must think about this.

I’ve started a new category called Office Space, by the way, in which I’m going to start featuring photos and descriptions of how different writers organize their writing space.

If you’re willing to have your writing space featured, please send me e-mail that includes a good digital photo as well as a brief description about what you like/don’t like about your office space. If you have a writing-related Web site, please include the URL.

    I love this!!

It will take me too long to clean my office space to have it featured…. Last weekend I spent the time I’d allocated for filing to printing out motivational quotes with color images and arranging them on the bulletin board above my desk. Much more fun : )

According to the Flickr photos, it’s not a kid’s bedroom, it’s the adults’ bed. That ‘room’ is their whole Tokyo flat. I think I’d be claustrophobic in a home that tiny :).

    Still, very cool bookcase!

Harald, wow — I think I’d be claustrophic, too. Plus Jeff and I would end up killing each other in such a small enclosed space. :-)

Karen: you don’t need to have a clean office space to have it featured. I’d love to see a photo anyway!

I would’ve loved a bedroom like that as a kid! Thanks for sharing. :)

What a cool room, this kid will not need student loans when he goes to college!
