Right now, I’m feeling very ‘meh’ about a tablet, for a lot of reasons. One, the only use case I want it for is to read comic books on, and an $800 tablet would be too much for me to spend on that use case. I don’t need anything larger than my iPod touch to surf the web in bed or on the couch. Of course, Apple is going to demonstrate some exceptional use cases, and it is going to convince me I need it!

But even if they do, I won’t buy it, simply because it is brand new and from Apple. Apple’s products almost always have major problems when they are first shipped out the door (just look at the 27 inch iMacs. Or Snow Leopard erasing data. Or the problems with the 1st gen iPhone.) I’ll wait for a few months for Apple to work out the kinks. I love being an early adopter (I still have my first gen Kindle, and I just sold my 1st gen iPhone a few months ago), but I can’t justify spending $800 or more on what is sure to be a beautiful, but essentially flawed product.

Also, if it comes with an AT&T contract, that kills it for me entirely, no matter how awesome it is. I gave up the iPhone because it was on AT&T. I won’t go back for any reason. I’m sure I’m not the only one in the U.S. that feels that way.

Now, I would like to see some new media partnerships when they announce the tablet. Since I have an Apple TV, that would totally help me out, lol.

I’m curious. Very curious. But not excited till I see what it’s really capable of (and costs). I’m a techno geek, so I’m usually an early adopter (1st gen Kindle, 1st gen iPhone, etc) but right now I’m not feeling like this tablet is going to doing anything special for me.

So, I wait and see.

Oh, and I totally agree with prior poster. If it’s locked into AT&T, that is an automatic ‘no’ for me. AT&T is the reason I have never upgraded my iPhone and won’t until it can be used on Verizon. I feel more passionately about NOT doing business with AT&T than I do about getting my hands on the newest electronics….

Hyped, yes. Ready to buy, no. Drooling, definitely.

Hey Debbie,
I am indeed hyped – mainly to see how it affects authors for digital publishing – will Apple offer the same type of easy deal for publishing as Amazon DTP (especially now it is global and 70% revenue AND non-DRM?). I’ve read that publishers are in talks re providing content – so the ebook industry should have a kick in the pants next week!
Thanks, Joanna
