Fiction writers should definitely check out the Duotrope’s Digest of Fiction Fields. The site includes a free, searchable database of fiction markets (mainstream and genre), as well a calendar of upcoming deadlines for themed publications.
The site is only a month old and still a work-in-progress, according to the creator, part-time writer Shannon Wendt. “I keep my ear to the ground, and I add/update a few market listings every day. Also, once a week — with a bit of help from some code I wrote — I go through every single listing in the database, looking for changes/closures/etc. Since the site is partially automated, it will keep chugging away even if I ever go on vacation (which I haven’t done in many, many years but that’s beside the point).”
