I now have floating bookshelves in my office tree! The secret: Umbra’s ‘Conceal’ bookshelves. Thanks to my husband for his handyman help.
I love my home office. Here’s what it used to look like when the previous owner lived here. Here’s what the rightmost corner (same photo) looks like now; I’ve turned it into my reading corner.
We refinished the room so that I could use it as my basement office. It looks nothing like the rest of the house and is my personal sanctuary and private space. Jeff, who is a compulsive “neaten and tidy” person, knows not to touch any of my things.
What does your workspace look like? Do you have a private place to work? If not, how do you keep from getting distracted?

I love the book tree! Currently, my work space is anywhere my laptop can go. Hopefully I’ll have a real workspace soon.

Love the wall painting. Love the book shelves.
I’d send a picture of my office space, but I’d have to clean up my desk first.
We have two rooms besides the kitchen, dining room, living room. One room is our bedroom, up on the top floor, with access to the deck. The other is our office/guestroom on the next floor down. (Kitchen, dining room, living room are on the next floor down from that.)
We measured everything PRECISELY and went down to Ikea and bought two of their extended office desks and set up them up under the windows, facing each other. There’s enough (just barely) spare room on the floor to roll out a queensize foam mattress, which we use when we have visitors booked into our bedroom.
(The office’s built-in fold-out couch is soooo uncomfortable. Plan is “some day” to rip out the couch and replace it with a fold-down Murphy bed of some sort.)
Printer, scanner, FAX/phone. CDs and music setup. Cupboards and shelves. Stuff all over the place, piles, boxes, file drawers, We hide our seldom-used wee TV in one of the cupboards.
Took me a while to get used to sharing office space with his nibs, but with only one room available in the place …
So, when =are= you coming to visit?!??
Could you paint =my= walls while you’re here?

Wordvixen: good luck on finding workspace.
Sal: I want a picture BEFORE you clean up!
My desk is from Ikea too. I want to come visit so I can snoop through your office!
