Noooo, books aren't to just sit on a shelf and look pretty, they are to be loved! Of course, I could never arrange my books by color, they are arranged like a library. Non-fiction in Dewey Decimal order, the fiction in sections like Sci-Fi, Mystery, etc., alphabetical by author and under the author, publication date order. Yeah, I'm a nerd, but I have so many books, how else could I find what I want to read?

Hey all, I recently visited NYC's Strand Bookstore and found that they, too, sell books by the foot! (http://www.strandbooks.com/app/www/p/bbtfoot/)

I am in FULL agreement with our fellow book lovers. This sight could not be real ,I thought. Being a Franciscan at heart,I sent away for a foot only of these"decorative" books before I past judgment . Oh my dear friends, these books are lovely!! The illustrations are beyond words,Danish or otherwise. I am also ashamed to admit the binding of leather is a lost art form. Truly beautiful. This brings to mind an old Jewish proverb(in English) 'you never know,YOU never know,YOU NEVER KNOW!!

Does anyone else find it delightfully ironic (yet somehow so appropriate) that the owner of the company who sells books for looks also can't spell worth a darn?

I am guessing Leni genuinely doesn't get the concept of people wanting books for more than just a color scheme. :)

Hi I am the owner of Book Decor. Yes we sale books that YOU can't read however this books are small works off art, a well as a lost art form nobody mass produce them any more, they decorate peoples books shelves just like a vase with no flower in or a candlestick with no candle or the fireplace that has never been used.
If Book Decor did not sale this small wonderful works off art to people that regardless of content can still enjoy them and marvel at fine workmanship, they would end op in the trash and I would be unemployed. So Yaa I sale books
that YOU can't read but I have a great business speak with great people daily who like I enjoy beauty

When I was in school (learning to be a shop assistant in a bookshop) I found it idiotic, that a book can be considered a mere object - but then again, it is an object. Of course it has meaning, it has a story, it has a soul. But that doesn't mean, that it is not an object - a decorative object - just as well. If someone wants to have two feet of green books, they should have it. Just because I don't sort my books by colour, someone else sure can. I don't think this is "bad", it might be "strange" and "a shocking thought" at first, but I don't think I would judge anyone just because of this.

Sorry. Rant over.

Okay, just looked at the site and I'm even more confused...why would you want books in languages you can't even read just b/c of colors? What if they sell you some really odd book that someone later tells you is about some taboo subject?

*hyperventilates at the thought of drilling through antique books* I can barely stand people who turn down corners of pages, I think I might die of heart failure if I saw someone DRILLING through a book!!

I think it is a waste to buy books based on decor, BUT if you're a writer....maybe it's not so bad if one more person buys your book, whether or not they read it. Just saying, it might not be that bad a thing! Still weird.

Yeah, I noticed that trend starting about two years ago - people buying banks of books and arranging them by color. :shudder: Then there was this time I was watching a home decorating show (I was bored; I hardly ever watch tv) where they were drilling holes through antique books to make stands for decorative lamps!!!

oh, jeez. Funny, though, "five feet of books" reminded me instantly of Russell Crowe's band, "Thirty-Odd Foot of Grunts" (which is a totally awesome blues/rock band)... and *then* I was horrified to find that the books referred to were just window dressing, as it were...

*sigh* I often take my second impression of a person by eyeballing their book collection. This... would classify them as "pretentious."
