Great source of character names: your spam folder

I hate e-mail spam as much as the next person. A long while ago, I got mad and tried everything to get rid of it: sent requests to get off lists, used different spam-filtering services, changed e-mail addresses. Now I’m mostly resigned, but I’ve also found a use for spam. Whenever I’m having trouble finding a character name, I look at the junk mail folder. Bonanza!

OMG – what a great idea! I’m never one to come up with clever names, so this is an instant way for me to name my next characters! Thanks! :-)

I think I actually went to school with a Shuan Mullins…but Otis Lacey is definitely appearing in my next story. “Mr Otis Regrets”, perhaps.

By far, I’ve found Hivelogic’s Enkoder (http://hivelogic.com/enkoder) to be the most effective way to reduce spam. I use it all the time to encrypt e-mail addresses posted online.

If I use my spam names, I will end up having to write an Eastern European soap opera.

Melody: Ha! I love that. :-D

Emily: Thanks for that URL. I’ll check it out.

Haha! Looking through those names, the ‘Ped Egg’ one is actually a product. It’s basically a file (that looks more like a cheese grater) to remove dead skin from feet. And then there’s a built in container that stores the dead skin… I saw an informerical for it on TV over the weekend.
