Just discovered it’s Agent Appreciation Day!
Here are five reasons why I love my agent, Ginger Knowlton of Curtis Brown Ltd.
1. She had faith enough in my writing to take me on as a client before I had anything published.
2. She helped guide me through my first book contract as well as answering my newbie questions with patience and wisdom.
3. She still answers my questions with patience and wisdom even though she has so many author and illustrator clients who have a (much) higher profile than I do: Newbery Medalists, Newbery Honor and Printz Honor winners, Edgar and Lambda winners, a Sibert and Orbis Pictus winner, New York Times bestsellers. And yet she always makes me feel important.
4. She’s fun, she’s witty, and she helped Lisa Yee give a hilarious “bad agent etiquette” lesson on her blog (see two-thirds down the page).
5. She fights hard for her clients. I feel incredibly lucky to have her.
(Please don’t confuse my Ginger with Ginger Clark, who is also a literary agent at Curtis Brown.)
