“Montblanc fountain pen (I’ll send you my address)
Healthy snacks (nuts are good, though problematic – would that be cannibalism?)
Paper. Reams and reams of dead trees.
A laptop or netbook.
A soft, comfy robe. (Writing naked is SO last year.)
A lap desk.” – Suggested by Holly Jahangiri.
“I support sites that feature handmade or recycled products. On etsy, my favorite find for writers or readers are these little terrariums that you can put a miniature copy of your favorite book in. The maker will create a mini-copy of whatever book you want and you can send a great gift for under $15.

“One of the best (and affordable) things I’ve come across for writers this Christmas is this ‘I Love You, Blogs and Coffee’ print from online store NotOnTheHighStreet which I pointed out on my blog not long ago. It costs £20 (about $32) and the website ships internationally. I’m not sure if the frame is included. I just love it because I think it’s the perfect gift for all us on Twitter (99% of whom also have blogs), it’s not that expensive, it’s something different and it’s the perfect accessory for the Wall Behind the Computer!
” – Suggestion from Catherine Ryan Howard.
“This idea is not original to me, but it’s a terrific gift–either to give or to receive, and I think writers would especially enjoy doing this. Several years ago, I came up with 52 questions to ask my mother. The plan was that each week for one year she and I would answer the questions and email them to one another. It was a way for us to get to know one another better and to encourage us to correspond weekly. Some of the questions I asked were (1) when and where was your first kiss and what is the story behind it? (2) What is your favorite part of your body? Your least favorite? (3) What is one of your happiest memories from childhood? Your unhappiest? (4) What person do you most admire and why? Now that she is gone, I am especially happy to have done this. Her answers are something I will always treasure.” - Suggestion from Susan.

Soap crayons for those ideas/plot twists that hit you in the shower. A jar or box of encouraging notes for moments of frustration. Care package of healthy snacks (and good chocolate). Suggestion from Ruth Stuart.
“~Hard- cover notebooks. (Usually decorative colors) These can be found places like Target or Wal- Mart– perhaps other places, but I don’t know where else.
~Music! It always inspires me. Instrumental things seem to work best for me.
~Index cards– for plotting, keeping track of who has what where at what time, writing notes, making lists of potential names. Colored ones are good for plotting. Cheap to buy at office stores.
~Flash drives– useful when writing in multiple locations or on multiple computers. Usually pretty cheap.
~A package of chocolate or their favorite soda/snack, for increased inspiration in a slump.” Suggestion from Ira Tailor.

5. Give the Thesis theme [or tell him/her of the easily customizable free Atahualpa theme which has more than 200 options].
6. Give his/her blog a link from your blog which has a PR of 5! Introduce him/her to the world of blogging if she/he does not have a blog.

8. Make your blog dofollow [a plugin] which means that all those who comment on your blog will get the google juice! A Livescribe pen (http://www.livescribe.com/)
A Kindle
An ergonomic chair
A day at the spa
A writers’ retreat (e.g. http://www.arvonfoundation.org/)” — Suggested by Derya.
“TIME! This is the one thing that writers who have day jobs and other obligations often lack. A few hours a day, or just one day out of the week to just write would be amazing. COST: ranges anywhere from taking kids off of writer’s hands to doing household chores or errands. I don’t have kids, but I do have errands and chores; it would be nice for someone else to do those once in a while and let me just think and write.” — Suggested by Jen.
“Journals
Monogrammed bookmarks (metal or otherwise)
Books on writing and/or grammar
Bookstore gift cards
Coupons for dinner/cleaning/babysitting/etc. (for use while the writer writes)

iTunes gift card (in denominations of $15, $25, $50, and $100), available from Apple.com and some department stores. One dollar=one song. Nothing inspires a story or motivates a writer like music.
Time. The one thing writers can’t ever get enough of is just solid time to dream, experiment with, or edit their work. Whether it’s an understanding family member who will do the chores for you, a coworker who constantly checks on your novel’s progress, or just you planning a daily session—time to write is a gift that keeps on giving.” – Suggested by Belinda.

“Journals are always nice especially once that are not too small but not to big to fit in a purse. Red and black pens. Also hilighters are good too.” – Suggested by Kwana.
“Lots of color papers, sparkle pens, pencil, color pens, erasers, rough papers for drafts, file and lot of stationary !! atleast that can make some lazy writer want to write ..” — Suggested by Pratsie.

Wow, this is a really comprehensive list! I like the terrarium and personal library kit the best.
Heh! That think geek site really does have some good ideas! Thanks Tarrah!
I must say, any one of those gifts would be amazing. But, if I had my way, the most perfect gift would be a Olivetti Valentine portable typewriter. I would give up the next ten birthdays for one of those.
On a side note, I love your site, and am so happy I came across it. I hope you don’t mind if I create a link to it.
I am IN LOVE with this blog post! What a fun bunch of gift ideas. Thank you!
Are the mini books real books? Can you read them? Interesting post, I’d like the typewriter nacklace!
A super-belated thank you for adding me to the list!
