Named Britain’s “crappest town” in 2004, the town of Luton has invited poets around the world to praise the town in verse. Poets had been invited to submit their poems to loveluton.com, and a selection will be published in a paperback anthology called Love Luton.
You have to admire the spirit and originality behind the idea. I’m almost tempted, though I’ve never visited the town and probably never will.

It’d certainly be interesting to see the entries that come out of this. The only thing I know about Luton is that it’s an airport that many of the discount airlines fly out of.

“Eating an orange
while making love
guarantees more enj-
oyment thereof.”
“The four eng-
ineers
wore orange
brassieres.”
Can anyone tell me who invented these rhymes for orange?

I just did a web search and found that the second rhyme is due to Willard Espy. The first rhyme is attributed to Tom Lehrer, but I suspect it may predate Lehrer.
