From author Poppy Z. Brite: “Back in December 2005 I wrote an article for Sacred History Magazine about the confluence of Catholicism, Voodoo, and African Spiritual churches in New Orleans, as well as a sidebar about Marie Laveau. The pieces were accepted and, as recently as a few weeks ago, were scheduled to appear in issue #3 of the magazine. Then, on March 3, I received notice that the articles would not appear in issue #3. Sacred History wanted to retain rights to the pieces for six months, but did not intend to pay me because they were ‘out of money.’ According to the payment terms we agreed on, the magazine owes me $3000.
Sacred History is still publishing and still soliciting contributions. If possible, please warn your readers that they are not paying writers for contracted work”
