Okay I have been keeping a calander this past week. It goes a little like this for this past week….5091. I know not good. I dropped down a few words but I do hope to redeem myself this upcoming week. I have already wrote over a thousand today. We will see how the rest of the week goes :)

I just started and chose a 250 word challenge for my novel-just-started, The Virgin. Last week, I did just under 4000 words, which is a good number for me (especially since I’m working on editing my previous novel). However, the biggest accomplishment is that I sat down and wrote every day, even on weekends that are typically a low point for me.
So…. Thanks for challenge! :)

Still plugging through the 500/day challenge. I’m keeping a calendar, too – making note of which piece to work, on which day. That, along with reminding myself that I can do 500 words a day, has helped me maintain some balance.

Wow, so I’ve been plugging numbers into a spreadsheet to track the breakdown of what I write where and I keep looking at those blank cells that really should have numbers in them, but I haven’t paid attention to what the totals add up to. For the last week I wrote around 20K. My monthly total for January sits at 53K, which isn’t true since I didn’t keep such a detailed account of numbers earlier in the month. I never realized how much I write – now if only I wrote where I need to be writing. That is the goal for this next month; move those high numbers to the right projects!!

Thanks so much for doing this. It really has helped me to think in the right direction for what I need to be doing. :)

Managed 3044 words on my novel last week, though most of that was rewriting so not sure it counts. I have dropped down from 500 to 250 per day for this week, as my confidence in doing more is low!

Whoops!! Not only do I write much more slowly than I would like, I also cannot count. Should have said 3375 words last week.

I just joined the 500 word challenge last night. I don’t know about prior to last week, but during the last seven days I wrote about 4500 words. (This is over and above my blog, though one short story may end up as a serial on my blog, but I’m counting it anyway.)

I hope to hit closer to 1000 per day, but if I get 700 good words I’ll be happy, so I’m going with the 500 challenge.

Thanks!

To my surprise, aside from one or two days when family was in town, I’ve actually managed to keep up with the 1000/day challenge.

Not to say any of it is any good, but for the most part, I put 1000 words down on a page every day.

After experiencing intense guilt every time I looked at my 1000 wds a day button… I put in 6000 words over the weekend. Still not great, but I think I broke through my block.
BTW, how do you count OTHER writing you do, like blog posts and freelance work, and so forth?

Cassi February 1, 2010 at 6:32 pm

I’m doing the 250 word challenge. I know I’m suppose to do 6 days a week I believe but I shortened it to 5 for the time being (a conscious decision, not just something that happened then I changed the rules) because I just started a new job and I’m adjusting after a long spell of unemployment.

I wrote over 1600+ words this week which for me is a good week (which amazes me b/c I do that much in a day during Nano). I’m trying to form a habit and I think not pressing myself so ridiculously hard that I’m doomed to fail is important.

Cid February 1, 2010 at 6:58 pm

@ Niki – I think the spirit of the challenge leaves you the the responsibility of deciding what you count. I decided that my focus is my writing/revising, but I’m also tracking my blogging and my rp addiction 0:-) Mostly because I want to figure out where I spend that valuable time and convince myself to change it.

I’ve done marginally well but I hope to do better next week. Thanks for the reminder and keeping me accountable through your blog!

Nicole February 1, 2010 at 10:35 pm

I’ve been doing okay. There were a couple of days that, because I wasn’t feeling well, I didn’t write, but I’m hoping to make up for that this week.

I fell off the wagon! :(

It has to do with the disconnect b/w the 250 words challenge and my own 52 Days of Pain that requires 800 words to make my 50,000 word count in 52 days. I need to just go back to your much more lenient and forgiving challenge!

PaulaO February 2, 2010 at 10:29 am

34987 over all, 1129 average. Which was surprising since this week I had two days of less than 100 words.

Dunx February 2, 2010 at 12:43 pm

I’m nominally doing the 1,000 word challenge, although I am applying that time to editing my novel which doesn’t really generate words – I have made my goal of spending an hour a day on it since I signed up though, which is more than I really expected.

What I am doing right now is collating all of the people, places, animals, and geographical details that I made up so that I can try to make them consistent across all three books. Then we’ll see what’s next.

Kate Fall February 2, 2010 at 2:46 pm

I’m so off the wagon, I’m embarrassed to admit it. But look, I’m here to get back on track!

Susanne February 2, 2010 at 2:59 pm

And again this week like the ones before I wrote 500 words a day, five days a week. This week the reasons for not writing were 1) a big party celerating my husband’s birthday where we spent a whole day cooking, and 2) the fact that the day after the party – which was spent cleaning and putting everything back again after only five hours of sleep – I was way too tired to write anything.

Nonetheless I’m pleased again, this challenge is working great for me. And I printed out everything I have written so far, and it makes for a nice stack of paper.

This project has been great in motivating me to write every day, and I’ve really come to enjoy updating my blogs and Twitter with word counts and creative progress.
