As some of you may already know, I have been obsessed (yes, I said OBSESSED) with the possibility of an Apple tablet for ages. I even launched a separate Twitter account (@tabletgal) just for posting any info I found.

I can’t believe the announcement’s going to be made TODAY. Finally. But now there’s the morning to get through…eek. I think my brain’s going to explode if the announcement isn’t made soon.

Here are some sites doing live coverage of the event at 10 a.m. PST / 1 pm EST:

Engadget
Gizmodo
MacRumors.com
PC World
Wired
Technologizer

If you know of others, please post below. I’d like to ask a special favour of Inkygirl readers and ask that Apple naysayers NOT post below, just for today. For the rest of you: are you going to be tuning in for live coverage, or waiting until after the event to read the news?

I am counting down the hours with you InkyGirl. Here’s a poem I wrote in honor of the event.

‘Twas the night before Apple
held the Great Event.
All the bloggers were blogging
predictions rampant.

The fanboys and fangirls
sat up in their beds,
Whilst visions of Mac tablets
danced in their heads.

And Steve, in his turtleneck
pressed his remote,
And practiced the timing
for his new Keynote.

The press oohed and aahed
at the Tablet displayed
The Internet twittered
“We want it! We’ll pay!”

Sir Steve merely smiled
and then he did state,
“I give you my tablet
My best work to date.”

“Go now, one and all!
To the Apple Store–fly!
The iPad is here!
New world order is nigh!

I’ll probably follow the coverage (work permitting), but part of me will be highly amused if Apple *doesn’t* announce a tablet/slate/second-coming-of-Newton today.

9to5mac is doing some kind of live coverage that they promise will be good:

I’m keen to know. I have some very specific needs (having to do with pdf files). I want a Mac reader (I’ve been Mac everything since Mac 128 days), but if it can’t handle pdf files, I’ll have to go with Kindle. Anxious!

Alas, at 1 pm EST I will be glaring at children in chorus practice so I’ll have to find out later. Also, I will have to lust in vain for a while until I manage to kill off a rich aunt. Of course, first I will have to acquire a rich aunt.

Still, quite eager to see its wonderfulness.

I’m so excited. Can’t wait to see what happens.

Buzz Out Loud, a CNet podcast, will be starting their preshow a half hour early, at about the same time the Apple Event starts(10 am Pacific, 1pm Eastern), and they’ll be live streaming while all the news is updated. Then they’ll start their regular show as soon as the Apple Event is over. If you’d like to listen to someone talk about, and comment on, the Apple Event, you can go to http://live.cnet.com and pick the link for Buzz Out Loud(If you go too early, you’ll get yesterday’s show. Just make sure you refresh at a little after the start. Also, there’s always a commercial, even before the life stream). There’s a chatroom there (with a very strict bot. Not cursing. No All caps. No emotes during show time). If you use IRC, the chat room can be found at irc.geekshed.net and the room is #cnetfans. I’ll be in the chatroom as dOgBOi.

Hope to see some people there today.

Hi Debbie,
It’s an old co-worker/former employee of yours, writing to say I just did a Google search about where to get coverage of the event and your post came up #6 in the results!

I’m totally psyched and love the cartoon. Thanks for touching on what so many Apple geeks are feeling right now!

Best,
Katie Fine

If you like a little humor with your live blogging, Andy Ihnatko from the Chicago Sun Times and Macbreak Weekly will be liveblogging the event (at least he’ll be trying to. He’s not sure if his server can handle the strain). The link is http://ihnatko.com/2010/01/27/apple-tablet-week-the-event-liveblog/

Looks like it requires you to do refreshes yourself (there’s no fancy javascript refresh.) I have it open just to look at occasionally for the witty analysis that is sure to be there.

And boingboing is also covering it.

I work a block from where the announcement is supposedly (hee!) taking place. As I walked by this morning I saw a few trucks with satellite saucers, including CNN.

What’s the big deal? LOL!

dogboi January 27, 2010 at 11:09 am

Okay, I know I’m commenting too much, lol, but I’ve got another live streaming one. Leo Laporte from This Week in Tech will be live streaming at http://live.twit.tv during the Apple Event. He has people on site (Andy Ihnatko and others). Some will be outside the event, and some will be inside.

Stace January 27, 2010 at 11:53 am

Do you know if there’s going to be live TV coverage at all? I may not have use of the ‘puter at that time.

Well, do you like it? I’m undecided as yet, need to actually see one.
