in Rejections

YasmineGalenorn

Yasmine Galenorn (@YasmineGalenorn on Twitter) says that she had 600 rejections piled up before she received her first book contract, including rejections from short stories, poetry, and novels. Her first eight contracts were for nonfiction, and she still has seven novels in the closet (“and they’ll stay there!”).

Now New York Times bestselling author Yasmine Galenorn writes the bestselling urban fantasy Otherworld/Sisters of the Moon series for Berkley and the upcoming Indigo Court Series (also urban fantasy).

Her advice to writers in her workshops:

I cannot guarantee you success, but I guarantee you this: if you quit, you WILL fail.

After rejections from 100 publishers to whom does one write?? I wouldn’t know any names.

@ Scriblerus: Confused as to why you think Yasmine submitted (1) project to (600) publishers.

Perhaps she kept writing/ honing her craft and submitted (60) projects to (100) publishers?

This is quite amazing. It’s also quite inspiring. Thank you for sharing.

@CK It’s clear that she made a lot of submissions before achieving success so i am not assuming 1 project to 600 publishers. However, whether it’s 6 projects to 100 or 60 to 10 or even if they were just edits that resulted in 600 rejections, I found the number overwhelming. And off the top of my head (or even with google) I wouldnt be able to come up with too many publisher’s names.
