Here's what a fox says...but more importantly, what's that children's book in the video?

I've been hearing the song in the above video in my head ever since my husband told me about it. The music video by Norwegian duo Ylvis went viral a few days ago. I love the wonky humor and tongue-in-cheek emo.

Popular Science followed up with a "What Sound Does A Fox Really Make" post that could be enlightening for kids (and grown-ups!) wondering what sounds a fox DOES make. :-)

But what *I* want to know: what's that children's book featured in the video? Here's a screenshot:

A blurrier close-up of the front cover:

Here's the back cover, though doesn't it look as if part of the cover beneath the man's hand  has been torn?

If anyone can identify the children's book in this video, I'd appreciate it if you'd post in the comments.

Thanks!

wow, Debbie, that's a tough one! At first I was going to guess a Santa book, but the close-up doesn't look like Santa anymore, and the back cover looks like an alligator. Then, if you look at the front cover again, it may be an alligator...hmmmm...OK, WHY did you have to do this to me? Now I'm going to try searching it out! lol

OK, it's a fox on the front cover. It's what makes sense and if you look at the guy's costume, it's the same, certainly in coloring. Still looking lol...

This isn't your answer, but I reached out to Norwegian illustrator Svein Nyhus who did not recognize the book and thought it might be a fake cover. You can read more about Svein's work here: http://sveinnyhus.blogspot.com/p/svein-nyhus.html

My guess is that it could be Russian picture book? Foxes, bears, hedgehogs...they've got them all!

The first time I heard a fox "talk" I was scared out of my whits. I was visiting my mother who lived in a small house surrounded by woods. I heard this blood-currdling scream just after dusk. I thought it was a woman screaming for help and I wanted to call the police. It took a long time for my mother to convince me that it was just a fox crying for its mate :D

I swear that I've seen that book on the PBS show Reading Rainbow but can't find a reference.

This is a quote from the band: "The way we work is we just sit around and talk about things and get ideas and take some notes. I guess we must have been talking about what sound a fox makes. And then we had a chance to work with Stargate, a production company in New York City... We actually did a favor for them and we asked them if they could produce a song for the new season in exchange"

And now this news from my friend Svein - he has illustrated a picture book based on the song, to be released in November!

It's Julie Ebbing ,a norwegian artist, who has made the fox paintings on the book. she is studying st the university of art in oslo.
You find her on facebook:-)

I am sorry to tell there is no such children's book. It is just a cover made for the video.
And I can say this for sure because I know the person who made it.

Cathy: Congrats to your friend Svein! I was so excited to see that news earlier. The art looks wonderful. And my art director at Simon & Schuster, Laurent Linn, worked with Svein!!! I would love to interview Svein about his art in the book.

Anne and Erichsen: Thanks so much for the info about Julie Ebbing. Does she have a website? I did find her on FB but only her FB friends can see her info.
